I’ve always liked the feeling of being in contact with nature. Back in the day when I was younger and internet wasn’t a thing yet I remember that I’ll always watch Studio Ghibli’s films over and over again just to see the amazing settings and the background art. You know, as a kid I’ve always wondered who created those cool nature backdrops and say “awesome!” every time.

jijiA couple of years later, we finally got to have our own internet connection ( yes! ), of course my passion and eagerness to find out didn’t go away within that long period of time- and I remember that that’s the first thing that I looked up on Google. I swear.

One of my most favorite artist of all time- Kazuo Oga-sensei. 😀

kazuo02I have so much respect for this person. You know why? He once mentioned on one of his many interviews that he’s self-taught. Studying on school was hard enough- what more if you’re studying by yourself? He never got proper education with his field of mastery and that’s big deal. He’s the person behind the half of Studio Ghibli’s movies success. He’s the man behind the stunning background artworks of the biggest animated films in Japan’s history. He even manage to inspire millions and millions of people overseas, including me.

kikiOga-sensei created the background art for my all-time favorite movie; Kiki’s Delivery
Service (1989);  Ponyo (2008), Howl’s Moving Castle (2004), The Cat Returns (2002), Porco Rosso (1992),  Whisper of the Heart (1995)… and many more. You can check them here.

Here are some of his works that I’ve kept for many-many years, ( a.k.a. My Favorites ):

Oga-sensei’s also a down-to-earth person. Even though he achieved so much in his life he still kept his feet on the ground and he’s really humble. Much like Hayao Miyazaki- P.S. I also LOVE Hayao Miyazaki in case you’re wondering. They’re like twins. ☺️

❤️ I think I’ll be posting more of these “Me Gustas 101”, hehe. ❤️
